My Background

I’ve been building things for as long as I can remember.

One of my earliest projects as a kid was a makeshift shelter built from scrap lumber to ride out a thunderstorm at my grandparents’ cottage. A few years later I built a “canoe.” It never touched water and eventually became a planter, but the building bug stuck.

Life eventually led me into a career in journalism. But even then, building remained a constant.

Over the years I’ve completed projects including,

• Gutting and renovating our first home

• Building a sailboat, sailing canoe, and five kayaks

• Completing three full bathroom renovations

• Building a 290 sq. ft. addition

• Constructing saunas, decks, fences, and much more
  
  

Today, my background journalism helps me as a renovation carpenter who also does repairs in a number of ways: effective communication, researching the best products and solutions, and delivering on schedule.

I also levelled up my years of carpentry work by working under a respected Calgary high-end renovator who reinforced two principles:

Do it properly.
Treat the client’s home as if it were your own.

Today I work on everything from interior repairs to window replacement and deck construction. But some of the most rewarding work is making homes safer and more comfortable for aging in place.

Most of my clients are homeowners who want repairs, smaller renovations, or upgrades—without the complexity or cost of hiring a large renovation company or national handyman service company and never knowing who shows up at your doorstep.

I know that homeowners sometimes worry about contractors or trades people who don’t return calls, show up late, or leave jobs messy or even unfinished. That is why reliability is a cornerstone of my work.

My goal is simple: do good work at a fair price, earn your trust, and be the person you call the next time something needs fixing or improving.
